WEAR SUNSCREEN, a primer for real life

Ladies and Gentlemen,

If I could offer you, only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it.

The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will dispense this advice now. Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth. Oh, never mind. You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded. But trust me, in twenty years, you’ll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really look. You are not as fat as you imagine. Don’t worry about the future. Or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind, the kind that blindside you at four P.M. on some idle Tuesday. Do one thing everyday that scares you. Sing. Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts. Don’t put up with people who are reckless with yours. Floss. Don’t waste your time on jealousy. Sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes you’re behind. The race is long and, in the end, it’s only with yourself. Remember compliments you receive. Forget the insults. If you succeed in doing this, tell me how. Keep your old love letters. Throw away your old bank statements. Stretch. Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life. The most interesting people I know didn’t know at twenty-two what they wanted to do with their lives. Some of the most interesting forty-year-olds I know still don’t. Get plenty of calcium. Be kind to your knees. You’ll miss them when they’re gone. Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t. Maybe you’ll have children, maybe you won’t. Maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky chicken on your seventy-fifth wedding anniversary. Whatever you do, don’t congratulate yourself too much, or berate yourself either. Your choices are half chance. So are everybody else’s. Enjoy your body. Use it every way you can. Don’t be afraid of it or of what other people think of it. It’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own. Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room. Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them. Do not read beauty magazines. They will only make you feel ugly. Get to know your parents. You never know when they’ll be gone for good. Be nice to your siblings. They’re your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future. Understand that friends come and go, but with a precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle, because the older you get, the more you need the people who knew you when you were young. Live in New Your City once, but leave before it makes you hard. Live in California once, but leave before it makes you soft. Travel. Accept certain inalienable truths: prices will rise. Politicians will philander. You, too, will get old. And when you do, you’ll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and children respected their elders. Respect you elders. Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund. Maybe you’ll have a wealthy spouse. But you never know when either one might run out. Dont mess too much with your hair or by the time youre forty it will look eighty-five. Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts, and recycling it more than it’s worth. However, trust me on the sunscreen.

My interview with Sherwin Williams went AWESOME!  Couldnt have asked for any better :)  They basically told me on the spot I'd be getting an offer and that I'd hear from them in a few weeks (talked to Gerald yesterday, he said he'll call at the beg of next week).  The job sounds super sweet with tons of opportunity for growth (big plus for me) AND great benefits.  Justin was pretty impressed because they want to meet with him before they re-locate me because "if you're sig. other isnt happy, then you wont be happy"....Atlanta is the possible living place :).  

THEN I get my grades from last term over break.... 3.750, thats right....I did frickin' awesome last term and I'm super pumped about that.  This term is going to rape me hard core though.  Econ 400, International Trade, Econ 401, Public Policy, Mkt 423, Marketing Research (which is the HUGE project!), and Aam 412, Current Issues in the Global Aftermarket.  I can assure myself that I will get at leats one A this term....my aftermarket class :) otherwise I'm just shooting in the dark here. 

My birthday was sweet, thank you to everyone who came out either in Pontiac or Midland.  It was tons of fun to be out with friends like that. 

Nothing SUPER exciting is going on in my life right now....just living life to the fullest right now and loving it all.  I did get a new job though, at Buffalo Wild Wings....I start over break so that'll be fun.  Things with Justin are going great :) Still have to buy his christmas present but I'll get around to that before he leaves for Florida. 

Well time to do the two article summaries I've been putting off for class tomorrow....

Well its about that time....the 10th week crunch.  The good thing, I'm not THAT stressed out yet but I know it'll hit this weekend.  I have three exams on Monday and one Tuesday morning before I have to pack the car to head down to Grand Rapids for a two day interview thingy with Sherwin Williams.  YES! I have an interview in the middle of exam week AND this HR manager said that this is the only interview that they are doing.  They will be making job offers after this set of interviewing.....that is frickin' scary!!!  But it will be nice to see some old friends next week and then head north to get my butt into the woods and get my deer :)  hahaha, yes I'm still thinking about deer hunting cause darn it I'm getting SOMETHING this year for sure....I cant not after getting a buck first thing in the morning on opening day last year....

Well I need to get moving...class calls :)  Later all

"To err is to human"

When you make a mistake there is a three step process to redemption.  First:  forgive yourself and rid yourself of the guilt you carry.  Second: ask God for forgiveness...wash away your sins and become one with God.  Third:  ask for forgiveness from the person you wronged.  This is the hardest of the three but very important.  All three are equally important but will take varying times to process.  I am sorry...

This past weekend was AWESOME!!!  Friday we went to a haunted house, Paul Justin Renee and I, and we had a blast...the drive was a little long but it was still fun.  I ended up getting sick that night, long day mixed with no food makes Beth not feel good, so I hit the hay early but it was a good thing.  I needed the extra rest to be ready for Saturday night.  Justin and I were going to go back to Beal Sat. night but decided to stay in Midland and have people at his place.  Long story short there were probably 30-40 people at his place thru the night and we had a great time (outside the fist fight that I had to help break up).  We got up early Sunday morning, packed the car, and headed back to Beal.  Justin and I got there around 10am and went right into the woods to help get blinds set for the season this year.  The whole family was there and it was really an awesome day.  I really felt like I belong there with all of them and it made me smile to think that this could some day be my extended family. 

This week has been a little stressful with presentations, work, and tests but its almost over and I get to go home and see the family tomorrow.  My mom's b-day is tomorrow also so it'll be good to go home and see her.  I'll be back in Midland again on Friday morning to get ready for another long weekend (SVSU Sat. night?). 

Well its late and I really really need to get some sleep.  Good night everyone...

8. My work exposes me to diseases.

Dear Penis,

request for the following reasons:

1. You do not work 8 hours straight.
2. You WORK IN SHORT SPURTS AND fall asleep after EACH
brief work period.

I know I havent updated in FOREVER so here's something fun for an update today....btw my life is going awesome right now!!! I have three interviews tomorrow from the career fair today, Justin and I are doing awesome!!! Just celebrated our 20 month, and I currently have a 3.8gpa for the term...

Live has been a little crazy lately.  Trying to get my homework done, working as usual, and getting all the sorority stuff done on time while still making time for my boyfriend and friends....yes my life is a little crazy right now but I'll make it through.

List 10 things that make you happy. Then tag 5 friends!!!

1) My Family :).  I love my parents soooo much, they are the best, and I cant wait to see them Auto Show weekend.  My brothers are awesome.  They are my best friends for sure and I miss them way too much being away from home.  Kaitlyn and Abby are way too adorable and I cant wait to get a chance to go down and see them and watch my lil cheerleader in the making (yes Kaitlyn started cheerleading :) Just like her Aunti).

2) My bed.  As odd as that sounds, its just so comforting.  Its very comfy and I just find myself lost in it whenever I go to sleep there, its so bright with my fishy sheets and it was made with love by my daddy :)

3) My stuffed puppy.  It reminds me of more simple days back when I was in HS and didnt have nearly as much stress and responsibility as I do now.  It helps me to remember that sometimes its okay to act like a kid.

4) My sorority sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta. I dont know what I'd do without them sometimes.  I love them all individually and wouldnt have experienced college in the same way without them.

5) My roomate.  I dont know what I'm going to do come May when I dont have Bry there every day to vent to or just laugh with over stupid music or videos online.  He's been a big support for me over the years here and I could never ever repay him for everything he's done for me. 

6) My "brothers" as I like to call them.  They are my blood brothers' best friends back home.  Most of them I have known since I was between the ages of 8 and 12 so they are brothers to me.  They mean the world to me and have always been there.  I know they'll always be there for me no matter what and they're awesome (its always a good thing to have an in at Oakland County).

7) All of my friends- from hs to northwood to randoms I've met a long the way.  They have each in some way molded me into the person I am today.

8) My greek family. My big bro, even though he's graduated, is sweet.  He always welcomed me with open arms even when others didnt.  My sister-mom taught me a lot about the sorority and "real" friends.  My XAM lil bro is one of the sweetest guys I know and I have much respect for him and the way he lives his life.  My TKE lil bro is the coolest guy I know :) I love Andy more than anyone will ever know.  And last but def. not least is my sister-daughter, Renee.  We are two peas in a pod all the way and I would never give back any second of time we've spent together over the past year.  I'm soooooo glad that we met and I got the chance to be her mom because I love her.  I wish we could spend more time together and I'm going to miss her dearly come May but I promise to come back and visit :).

9) The animals.  I have to phrase it that way cause I love mine and Bry's fish, they are super soothing.  Then there is Nizmo, he may piss me off daily but I still love him.  He sleeps with me every night I'm here and even in my bed when I'm not.  He was the best companion this summer when I was all alone in Minnesota.  And my puppy at home, Emmy (Emily actully).  She is super hyper and jumps on EVERYONE but I love her for it.  She'll always have that puppy mentality and she's adorable.

10) Giraffe's :).  What? You actully thought I'd do this whole thing and not mention my love for giraffe's?  Well guess again! They are the coolest animal in the whole wide world and I love them.  They're sweet!!

Its amazing how awake I am after a day like today.  Well last night was a very long night and I didnt get much sleep, then up for class at 10am today.  Got outa there and ran around town getting stuff done for the sorority, got back here and did some more work.  Finally laide down for a nap around 2ish and got up at 4 to get a shower before work.  I was at work for about 4.5hrs and did over $100 in sales per hour!!!  I was definatly swamped tonight and way stressed out, but made some pretty good money.  Paid Bry for some bills and have my dues set aside for Sunday (I know Christa will appreciate that).  I got home around 10 and started more sorority stuff and cleaning.  Its now 12:30 and I'm still not tired and my whole room is done and everything is ready for the meeting Sunday.  I feel like its been such a productive night :).  Now I just have to find time in the rest of this busy weekend to get my homework done for next week.  We have work weekend from 10-5 tomorrow, I go into work at 4 though so I'll be there till 10ish again, then also Sunday from 10-2 then meetings that night.  I guess I'll have Sunday afternoon to do homework for a few hrs but that doesnt sound like much fun to me.  Alrighty, well time to sign off and get a few more things done then call it a night so I'm fresh for tomorrow :)

So I definatly have homework due for my Mkt class today.....not sure what it is though.  Nobody knows what it is, that seems to be a problem in my world....but I could be wrong.  Didnt do the whole gym thing again today, I just feel really worn out this week and this damn cold isnt helping (actully I'm pretty sure its the reason why).  I just want to get rid of it so i can go back to my routine and get my butt in the gym each day.  Well I'm out....time for a shower to get ready and start my day...later all

Well I havent updated in a while, for various reasons. I am still having my deep set personal dilema right now and I'm not sure what path to take....I have A: be single and B: not be single. Yes there is a WHOLE lot more to it than that but that is the flat out end to the problem. When you're not happy....what do you do? You eliminate that thing in your life that is making you unhappy right? Well what if that thing makes you happy 50% of the time and unhappy 50% of the time....do you eliminate it anyways or "take the good with the bad"? I'm starting to have a new outlook on life over the past week due to a course I am talking....so...

...we're going to have a slight lecture from my ENG 301 course...its about relationships with others and yourself....with Mr. Phillips, amazing man.

There are two kinds of emotions....factilitative and debilitiative. And every emotion can take on either one of those two forms...know how? YOU!! Its all in the way you react to the emotion when it arises. Now the best way to lead your life is to transfer those negaitve emotions into positive energy so all emotions become facilitative actions. Know what determines the way you think about something? Its called "self-talk". its that little voice in the back of your mind that is always talking whether or not you're listening....its the voice that says "wow this class sucks" and "damn that is a fine ass". Its also that voice that says to you in the morning "dont wear that....you look fat" making you change 16 times before class. These are your thoughs....now there is a three step process to reaching your actions which you in turn make into "reality". That is 1) words 2) pictures 3) actions. One word can trigger a though, in your mind a picture, which then makes you react, your actions. Lets say someone walks up to you and says "Man you look tired today"...you hear "tired" so you think in your head....bags under eyes and groggy....well you may not feel tired but then you start to wonder "do I really look tired?" and then it starts to come out in your actions as you fume over this idea....you start to actully feel tired and worn down. YOU have totaly control over your self-talk and the pictures that are painted in your head. You dont ahve to listen to someone when they say something negative to you but by doing so you give them the paint brush to paint that picture in your head. As soon as you give someone else control over your pictures, thoughts, is when you start to let others control your emotions, actions, and in the end your reality. You have the control over what you feel about yourself and the situations that are presented to you. Never give up your paintbrush to someone else to paint pictures in your head....paint them yourself and make them nice and happy.
As Mr. T once said "I may have been born in the ghetto, but the ghetto wasnt born in me"
Perfect example...he never gave up control of his paintbrush and took control of his reality and made something out of himself.
The average person has 50,000 thoughts a day....some you hear, some you dont. The average person also thinks negativly 77% of the day....hence 77% of the 50,000 thoughts you have are negative. Now going back to what I said earlier that your thoughts directly control your actions and reality....that means that 77% of the day there is the potential for negative actions and a negative life.
TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE NEGATIVE OR POSITIVE!!! When you are upset with someone, turn that negative into a positive action and dont beat yourself up over it or hold it inside. You control your life so grab on with both hands and take control of the reigns.

As Mr. Phillips would say...."There is a day out there so go out and make it a good one for yourself!"

Well only one more day at work...its amazing at how quickly this summer went by.  It seems like it was just yesterday that I was unpacking the car and the cat was freaking out about the new enviroment, and now I'm going to be doing it all over again in just a few short days.  Tonight is packing night and laundry for me....well packing and working on the competitive analysis.  I'm proud of myself, I worked on it ALL day at work today and actully made some good progress.  Now its just up to polishing it up and getting it ready to present. 

Well I'm off to go clean the car so I can stat packing it tonight.  See you all soon!!!
